7 Dimensions of Emotional Well-being

Ngā ahunga e 7 o te oranga hinengaro

 Facilitator: Dr Jean Annan

Positively Psychology offers a series of workshops for education and health practitioners seeking to build children’s emotional well-being.

Children’s emotions are now recognised as central to teaching and learning. Neuropsychology research has repeatedly demonstrated the interaction of children’s emotions with learning and social development through early learning and school years. We now know that young people’s social, psychological and academic experiences at school have life-long effects on physical health, mental health, life satisfaction and even longevity.

Participants in the workshops are introduced to the 7 Dimensions framework, comprising seven critical aspects of emotional well-being. This evidence-based, applied framework generates contextual, collaborative, culturally relevant and appreciative understandings of well-being that lead to positively-focused solutions.

Other workshops

During the neuroscience of anxiety workshops participants learn about the broad functions of the brain and key processes involved in anxiety. Workshop content is applicable for a wide range of ages, settings and circumstances.

POSITIVE PSYCHOLOGY IN THE SCHOOL AND CLASSROOM

Te aro tika ki ngā take hinengaro i ngā kura me ngā akomanga

When parents and teachers take positive approaches to teaching and learning, children’s learning and well-being is enhanced. Positive approaches create safe environments, foster secure relationships and generate purposeful activity. Participants in this workshop learn about positive psychology and some of the many ways it can be applied in children’s educational and community settings.

INTEGRATING NARRATIVE APPROACHES WITH EVERYDAY CLASSROOM PRACTICE

Te kōtui i ngā tukanga kōrero i ngā mahi akomanga o ia rangi

Children live their lives in narratives about self and identity. These narratives reflect children’s experience in their particular cultural environments and influence the way they respond to the circumstances they encounter. The workshops consider pro-active ways of supporting groups of children and individuals to develop positive narratives of self and others. They include practices that teachers and parents can integrate into their everyday interaction with children and positive methods for helping children to adjust stories that are not working for them.
