Helping young people, adults, families, schools and organisations
Te mahi tahi ki ngā taiohi, ngā pakeke, ngā whānau, ngā kura me ngā tōpūtanga
Positively Psychology uses positive, appreciative and neuroscience-based approaches for optimising children’s and teenager’s emotional well-being and learning. Through these methods, young people come to understand and adjust their thoughts, feelings and actions. They develop tools they can use to support their well-being now and in the future.
During psychology sessions, assessments are made in areas related to requests for support. This may include assessments of children’s broad social and emotional experience and/or educational assessments to support learning. Parent sessions are held to discuss ways they can support their children’s well-being. The psychologist may also work with school staff to support children’s learning and well-being in the educational setting.
Positively Psychology helps children and teenagers to:
Develop a positive outlook and engage well in social and learning activity.
Manage the effects of stress and mediate responses to big feelings
Build relationships with others such as family members, peers and teachers.
Find a sense of safety and meaning for particular circumstances (e.g. School attendance).
Effectively communicate their needs, experiences and preferences to those who care about them.
Create or rediscover hope and optimism for their futures.
